About me

I initially started working with ceramics because I wanted to create objects that I wanted to see.   The forms I create are often inspired by architecture,  I’m especially inspired by Brutalism - its strength, simplicity and grandeur, albeit with a firm nod to the natural world.

This world sometimes feels a little polished to death and I want to create work that adds character to it, even if it is in a tiny tiny way.  Can’t help but be influenced by two of the most impressive decades, in terms of art and design - the 60s and the 70s.

Each piece is lovingly hand built in my workshop. From idea to sketch to creation, the process is a slow one as clay cannot be forced beyond it’s nature. When I’m in the workshop the tick tock of the clock is liberated and life has to move slower for a spell. I hope that this feeling extends when it’s sitting in your home.

All the ceramics are individually handmade by me. Thoughtfully designed and constructed with each piece in mind. I use a variety of building methods — coil built, slab made and slip cast. I am passionate about nature and it’s animals, so I aim to make each one with minimal waste and minimal carbon footprint.
